HERE IS A REVIEW FROM AARON SPECTRE'S ZINE 'PIE' AT OPIATENYC.COM:

HERE IS A REVIEW WRITTEN BY SECRET AGENT GEL FOR THEKIDSAREBORED.COM

1.19.2003 TIME: 11PM
NEW YORK - NEW YORK - USA

JANUARY, 19, 2003 WAS A VERY LONG DAY FOR ME. IT STARTED WITH WORK AT HOME, THEN A HAIRCUT,
THEN A DASH DOWN TO THE NEW MUSEUM FOR A MEETING. FINALLY THE RELAXING PART OF THE SUNDAY
STARTED AS I ROLLED TO SHARE AT OPEN AIR (AFTER A QUICK, NECESSARY STOP AT A CRIF DOG).
FIRST IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH SHARE, LET ME GIVE YOU A BIT OF DESCRIPTION - THE FIRST FEW HOURS ARE FILLED
WITH ALL SORTS OF AUDITORY NONSENSE. THE MIDDLE ROOM IS FILLED WITH LAPTOPS AND SONIC TOYS ON ONE SIDE,
AND MAC LAPTOPS RUNNING VIDEO ON THE OTHER. IT'S A WONDERFUL SETUP AND YOU CAN REALLY IMMERSE YOURSELF
IN THE DIMNESS. IN THE FRONT ROOM THERE'S USUALLY A SOLO SET GOING ON, THOUGH IT'S LESS OFFICIAL
THAN THE "FEATURED SET" THAT STARTS AT 9 - EVERYONE ELSE SHUTS OFF AND THE DJ BOOTH IS PUT TO USE
WITH A SINGLE ARTIST PLAYING A MORE STRUCTURED SET.

AS WITH ANY JAM-STYLE COLLABORATION, THE HIGHS ARE REALLY HIGH AND THE LOWS ARE REALLY LOW.
THERE'S A LOT OF HAPPY ACCIDENTS, AND SOME BITS THAT ARE JUST AWFUL. WHAT'S KEY IS THAT PEOPLE LISTEN
TO EACH OTHER AND CONTRIBUTE ACCORDINGLY.

SO THIS NIGHT THE FEATURED SET WAS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN CLONE (BILL MATTINSON)
AND JENGHIZKHAN (JOHN PARKER). BILLS BEATS HACKED AWAY AT THE DENSE FOREST OF ??? TONES AND MELODIES.
IT WAS A GREAT MATCH. THE MELODIC CONTENT WAS SOLID, RUNNING THE GAMMUT FROM CASIO TONES
AND BASSES TO ATMOSPHERIC SAMPLE-BASED TEXTURES. MOST OF SEEMED FAIRLY SIMPLE, BUT THAT KEPT IT
FROM FIGHTING WITH THE JUNGLISM. I LOVE ANYTHING THAT BRINGS THE TERM "THROW DOWN" TO MY LIPS.
ROLLING ALONG, THE BEATS GAVE SQUAREPUSHER A RUN FOR HIS MONEY. DEAD ON. TWO IRRELEVANT DETAILS -
THERE WERE SOME TECHNICAL PROBLEMS THAT CAUSED THE BUYS TO START LATE, AND BILL PLAYED THE ENTIRE SHOW WITH A HERNIA.
NO WONDER THE BEATS WERE SO WICKED.*

*NOTE: WE WERE ACTUALLY LATE BECAUSE WE WERE WAITING FOR OUR DRINKS TO KICK IN.
BILL REALLY HAD A HEARNIA AND COULD BARELY STAND UP (OR WAS IT THE DRINKS?).

DENIM VENOM AS JENGHIZKHAN VS CLONE PLAYED ONE MORE SHOW
FOR BROKLYN BEATS THAT WAS NOT RECORDED:
